Each safari is tailor-made to suit the time of the year, current weather patterns, water levels in the delta and each particular party’s interests and preferences.  Below is an example, as guide itineraries only to give you an idea of what to expect.

A typical safari can take anything from 5 to 15 days.

We take our safaris into National Parks and Game Reserves as well as community owned wildlife concession areas.

Park fees are payable in each of these and are charged on per day (not per night) basis.

SAFARI TO MOREMI GAME RESERVE AND COMMUNITY WILDLIFE AREAS

Day1. Arrive in Maun on Air Botswana (daily flights from Johannesburg, usually arriving in Maun around mid-day). Drive (approximately a 3 hour drive, with stops en route for lunch and drinks and to photograph game/beautiful scenery etc) to a preset camp in the Okavango Delta. Sundowners as you watch your first African sunset.

Day 2. Moremi Game Reserve - Up early to have tea/coffee and go out on the morning game drive. Lion calls heard through the night dictate a lot of the drives and following fresh lion tracks can be very exciting. We take a full coffee box with us for a short stop mid-morning. At about 10:30 - 11:00 am, we return to camp for a full "Lloyd's Camp" type brunch (combination of breakfast and lunch). Out again for the afternoon game drive after a relaxing siesta through the hottest part of the day. Tea with savoury and sweet snacks (freshly baked camp bread) is also served before the afternoon game drive.

Wilmot Camp

Day 3. Moremi Game Reserve - Game drives both in the morning and afternoon, exploring likely corners for elusive leopard or following up tips from other guides. There are many useful clues from other animals that might indicate the presence of predators.

Day 4. Moremi Game Reserve - Pack up camp and move to another location within the Reserve where different habitat and riverine scenery offers more varied birdlife or sights of predators. Here too are favourite haunts of animals. Enjoy a picnic lunch while the staff set up the new camp. Return at sunset to hot showers and a cheery fire before supper is served.

Day 5. Moremi Game Reserve - Early start to catch a strolling leopard or explore the direction of lion calls from the night before. Afternoon game-drive in another direction so as to cover as much ground as possible.

Day 6. Moremi Game Reserve - Another day in paradise, looking listening, taking photographs, watching hippos or crocodiles, stalking herons or the antics of monkeys. Early to bed after supper in preparation for breaking camp on the morrow.

Game Drive Day 7. Community Wildlife Area - A short game drive after breakfast while the staff pack up camp for the move to the Community Wildlife Area. Return to finalise the load-sharing and set off for the Okavango delta. Stop at rendezvous point for collection of ice and fresh ingredients and enjoy sandwiches and refreshments while we wait for the supply vehicle. Enter the Community area and begin seeing various animals as we head for our camping area. Stop at one of the many bridges to stretch our legs while the staff go ahead to set up camp. Game-view slowly until sunset at the new site.

Day 8. Community Wildlife Area - A leisurely start, good breakfast, take in the new surroundings, check out tracks to see what animals are about. Lunch followed by an afternoon of fishing, swimming or exploring. Night of hyena howls or baboon alarm barks.

Day 9. Community Wildlife Area - Early game-drive to go explore the palm belts and riverine areas for lechwe, breeding herds of elephant or buffalo. Stop for coffee, tea and snacks, Game Drives photograph the wetland scenery or birdlife. Lunch followed by an afternoon's fishing (fresh fish for supper) with sunset drinks at some attractive spot. Night game drive for an hour or so before or after supper.

Day 10. Maun - After breakfast, load up and head for Maun viewing whatever can be seen. Staff remain to pack up camp and follow to Maun. Arrive in time for your Air Botswana flight.

This is a sample itinerary which can be shortened or extended or varied according to clients’ wishes. Ideally, we would like a party of 6 persons and need at least 4. If a single person or a couple wanted an exclusive safari this would cost a bit more.

Conditions vary and length of stay in the Moremi often depends on availability of sites. Early booking is most important.
