Overview

Situated on Lake Kariba in the middle of one of Africa’s most spectacular lakes, overlooked by the majestic Matusadona Mountains, Spurwing Island Lodge is the perfect place for a tranquil getaway for the wildlife enthusiast, serious fisherman and holiday maker alike.

“It’s a relaxed family spot with no airs or graces. The whole feel of Spurwing Island Lodge is down to earth and relaxed. The dining room is open to the breeze, the pool is nice and big for the children, the bar area is generous and the location is well shaded. Spurwing Island Lodge is also very popular as a fishing base, because it’s close to the bream rich coves of the former Sanyati forest. We all love Kariba, who wouldn't? It's 280 kilometres (kilometers) of bream, tiger, drowned forests, crocs and hippos. It’s harder, wilder, bigger, more visceral than almost any other man made lake anywhere. It’s fun, laid back, it’s family. Indeed there is still nothing like it on our doorstep.”(Excerpt from Getaway Magazine)

Spurwing Island is able to cater for a maximum of forty adult guests in three different styles of accommodation. However for special events more guests can be accommodated with prior arrangement. All rooms have scenic views over Lake Kariba and the Matusadona mountains, with a 'sit for hours' verandah with outside chairs. Insect spray, mosquito nets and repellents are provided in the rooms.

Situated in the Matusadona National Park, Spurwing Island is ideally situated to offer a wide range of game viewing activities. Game viewing options incorporate both the water (by boat) and land (by foot and by vehicle) to ensure that our guests have access to some of the finest game and bird viewing in the country.

Hosts a good population of all large predators such as lions, cheetah and leopard, making the sighting of these large predators a regular and exciting experience.
